$1,800 for 1,800 stitches

Woman attacked by leopard after “testing its mood” and determining that it was okay, after it licked her hand. What this woman didn’t know, was that the leopard was really just previewing its next meal. Now, Im all for exotic pets and wow, a leopard really would be one badass pet. I can see it now me and my leopard, my leopard and me, doing all the things a man and jungle cat do. See, the difference between myself and this woman, she was actually stupid enough to buy the leopard. What she did, essentially was pay $1,800 to have a ticking time-bomb sit in a cage in her own home. Don’t think so? Watch the end of the video clip and tell me i’m wrong. FOR ALL THOSE WITH A WEAK STOMACH, don’t watch, just take my word for it.

wtfjapanseriously.com

On a lighter note this week, I was fortunate to stumble upon this oddly aimed avertising for what seems to be a Japanese haircare product. I wonder who the mastermind behind this was, and furthermore id like to shake his hand for making a commercial that leaves no option to the viewer but so think WTF JAPAN SERIOUSLY? Don’t get me wrong, im all for cultural diversity, but seriously? It looks like this guy took David Bowie’s character from Labyrinth, slapped a clapping mohawk on them and called it a day.

And yes, someone did really make a website dedicated to oddities such as this.

Quit yer Bitchin’

We look back at the 1960’s as a time period in which civil rights and personal freedom thrived on the passion and emotion of the youth. Today, people seem to always be interested in the 60’s whether it be the style of dress or music of the times. Whats strange is how very different the actions/mentalities of the two generations are.  By way of rallies, boycotts, and sit-ins, positive change was provoked and barriers were broken. Adding to the credibility of these events, is the fact that the technology of the 60’s had nowhere near the potential to congregate that modern technology provides. For example, no one was BBMed or texted to come together for a cause. Instead, passionate, youthful, revolutionaries would communicate face to face allowing a mixture of ideas and motivations. In the modern age, despite being given such advanced means of communication, it seems that these advances have actually set back the art of standing up for what one believes. In theory these advances should make it that much easier for knowledge and ideas to spread, but instead it has seemingly decreased this generations’ drive for change and motivation to provoke such change. “idk” when communication in general became so impersonal and abrupt to the point where a telephone call is even too much effort, but I don’t like where its leading us. Now, one may believe that there aren’t issues to fight for in the modern age like there were in the 1960’s, but i don’t buy it. This opinion, I believe is due to a false consciousness that has seemingly swept the citizens of the US. What I mean by this, is that people have grown so accustomed to the way things are that they believe they are supposed to be this way. The fact that we are content being represented as little as we are and don’t stop to wonder why, is incredible. Technology keeps us distracted, while overly biased media withholds the real truth. While people feel entitled to voice their opinion and act like they really give a shit, words and actions are very different. Lets fight against rising tuitions, textbook prices, and healthcare premiums. If WE can make little steps to a better environment for all, I believe that power in numbers can overcome the power of the dollar. Pardon me if this idea is a little too utopian for your tastes, but at least we could give it a try.

Manhattan- Afraid of Human Contact

Anyone who has been to the bustling city of Manhattan has more than likely utilized the vastly spread subway lines provided by the MTA. A simple process really: swipe your metrocard, wait for the right subway line, arrive at your destination. While in principle, this seemingly fool proof process provides a worry-free method of transportation, many New Yorkers have developed an apparent need for solidarity when it comes to the subway. While on my commute home from the Upper-East side I hop on the 6 line, conveniently stationed on the outskirts of Hunter College’s campus. However, what I encounter is not always the accepting New York crowd that is often portrayed by edgy haircuts, “off-beat” lifestyles, and thick framed glasses. Instead, many times I encounter a crowd of people avoiding any human contact at all, ironically living in one of the most populated cities in the world. I wonder about the thought process of a person hopping from car to car (technically, illegally) in search of a gaping spot on a bench. What irks them about the person they could potentially be sitting next to in the car they’re in? How quickly is that person judged? In addition to this, fellow passengers avoid eye contact as if every other person is a blood-relative of Medusa. Maybe if each passenger was entitled to their own personal cubicle they would feel more at home. Are the open minds of new yorkers closed as they “watch the gap” into the subway car? Perhaps this is just a sign of a technologically advancing society neglecting their need for eventual human contact, or perhaps people are just strange.

People are Strange..

Hello all! How many times have you seen a human action and wondered why? Personally, I am always observing behaviors and actions from others thats simply make me wonder. Can these actions/behaviors be simply explained, or are some people just strange? I encourage all of you to share with me! Looking forward to it,

Mark
